Desi Mealz: Helping to Carry the Taste of Ghar ka Khana

Image
There are two types of kids in their childhood. First is the kid who eats everything and doesn't make a huge deal about it. And those who are very, very picky about their food.  Those who fall into the second category get scolded by their parents from time to time. I fell into the second category. If I did not want to eat something I would not eat it. No matter what. I was stubborn like that.  That's why it was so difficult for me when I moved to a hostel for higher education. Hostel food was the worst nightmare. Imagine something you don't like. Now imagine if someone managed to make it in such a way that you end up disliking it even more.  That was my situation. I started to miss ghar ka khana like never before. We indeed realize the importance of homemade food only when we stay away from home.  That time my roommates and I came across Desi Mealz ready to eat Indian food. It was the closest we could get to homemade food.  Desi Mealz had so many varieties of re...

How to Make Mexican Rice

Image
Lockdown has impacted all of us in one way or another. Maybe in a positive way, and in some situations, it was probably an unwelcome impact. In my case, I got to discover a side of me that was good at cooking and baking. So I would say it was a good impact. I have tried to make so many dishes in this past year. To my surprise, most of them turned out to be amazing. I ended up making them again and again on demand from my family.  One of those dishes was Mexican rice. I was under the impression it was a difficult and complex dish to make. But I can't be more wrong. It was so easy to make and the best thing is it's a one-pot recipe. It was a very refreshing dish and a different dish from what we usually eat as rice.  Without further ado, let's get started with the recipe: Just a heads up, don't get overwhelmed by the long list of ingredients. Keep in mind it's an easy recipe to make. 😉 Ingredients:  Oil- 2 tbsp Rajma beans- 1/2 the cup cooked Pre-cooked rice- 3 1/2 t...

Things I have Learned from Hostel Life

Image
Schools and colleges are about to reopen. Some colleges have opened already. When it comes to school and college, not everyone is fortunate enough to have their home and college in the same city.  Due to this, many students have to stay in a hostel or as paying guests.  If you are one of these students, this can be the time of your life. In my case, it was.  I have stayed in the hostel for about 6 years. First, it was during my graduation in Hotel Management that was in Nagpur. The second time I stayed in the hostel for my Master's was in Mumbai.  If there is anything I have learned from these past 6 years that is: 1) Getting good roommates who are like family is everything.  2) Ready to eat Indian food is a blessing.  3) How to use money wisely. Those who have stayed in the hostel, know what I am talking about. Those who are moving into a hostel or PG are about to find out.  Blessing: Good Roommates Good roommates are like rain in the village from th...

Get Work From Home Ready with Desi Mealz

Image
When the majority of offices declared work from home, everyone had a different reaction. Some people liked to work from the comfort of their home while others missed work from their office.  It was not that easy to start work from home. The technical aspect was taken care of by companies, but some people had other problems. Now, some people were staying away from home and had to address the elephant in the room. That elephant was food. Not everyone is a pro or even good at cooking. Even if someone could cook a decent meal, their busy work schedule did not allow it. Those who stayed with their family, probably did not face this issue. But for others, it was a big deal because ordering food online every day is just not possible. And even though today pretty much everything is back on track, some people are facing the same issue with food.  Keeping all this in mind, we have a solution for people who are struggling with the issue of food.  We specialize in ready-to-eat...
